Olive Tree and Olive Oil have played an essential
role in the Mediterranean Culture, becoming a symbol of
peace, progress, wisdom and quality of life.
Researches on the effects
of Olive Oil are continuously discovering the excellent
qualities of this main fat source of the Mediterranean
Diet.
Therefore, the International
Conference on Olive Oil and Health is organised is Jaén,
the main province in olive oil production. The aims of
this conference are:
- To host,
in the world's leading Olive Oil producing community,
the First International Conference on Olive Oil and Health.
- To demonstrate the relation between Olive Oil consumption
and Health
- To highlight the beneficial properties of Olive Oil
for the prevention of diseases
- To promote the consumption of such a healthy product
- To release the last research results related to Olive
Oil
This conference, that is organised
by the Provincial Council of Jaén and the Health
Ministry of the Andalusian Autonomous Government, will
take place 21st, 22nd and 23rd October 2004. Prestigious
acknowledged scientists on this subject from Spain and
other countries will attend this conference. During those
days, they will work to draw up a Consensus Document about
the beneficial properties of Olive Oil on Health.
This Conference will be held
with the backing of the following entities: the International
Oil Council, the Provincial Council of Córdoba,
the Universities of Jaén and Córdoba, the
Olive Tree Foundation and the Agriculture and the Education,
Employment and Technological Development Ministries of
the Autonomous Government of Andalusia, which together
with the Provincial Council of Jaén and the Health
Ministry of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia are
the Organising Committee of this event. Moreover, a Scientific
Committee has been formed by well known Spanish researchers
regarding Olive Oil study and its beneficial effects on
our body.
